Genesee Health Plan, Huntington Bank providing free financial literacy classes Community members welcome, lunch, and gift card drawings provided FLINT – For a second year, Genesee Health Plan (GHP) announced today that they will be providing two free financial literacy classes with Huntington Bank through its emPOWER Genesee Program for Genesee County community members. Thursday, February 8th at 12pm Topic: Recovering from the Holidays Thursday, February 15th at 12pm Topic: Getting your Debt in Check The emPOWER Genesee program of Genesee Health Plan, supported by Consumers Energy, Ascension Genesys, and Huntington Bank, helps Genesee County residents and families connect with utility assistance and resources, financial education and assistance, health care enrollment and additional community resources. “We are delighted to work with Huntington again this year to provide these financial literacy classes,” said GHP President and CEO Jim Milanowski. “We had overwhelming interest and attendance during last year’s classes, averaging about 25 attendees.” “Participants were engaged in the class topics; we hope that we can have more community members participate this year.” Both classes take place at noon and are held at the GHP office located at 2171 S. Linden Road, Flint. Lunch will be provided for attendees, including a gift card drawing at both classes. Participants who attend both classes will be placed in a drawing to win a $100 gift card. “Huntington Bank is proud to continue our partnership with GHP in providing financial education classes and resources for community members,” said Huntington Bank’s Flint Market President, Greg Viener. “Our goal is to equip and empower people with the information and resources needed to make sound financial decisions, because financial health is linked to overall well-being.” Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) is also partnering with GHP for the classes by providing transportation to and from the classes for attendees in need. Any attendees requiring transportation can register online with their request by visiting www.geneseehealthplan.org or by calling GHP at 844-232-7740. The emPOWER Genesee Program was launched in November of 2019 at the Consumers Energy Payment Center located on Court Street in Flint to connect people paying their bills with utility, health care, financial and other community resources. Since its inception, the Community Navigator has assisted over 2,000 community members with services including State Emergency Relief applications and referrals to community and State Emergency Relief programs.
